COMMUNICATION SUPPORT FOR THE FIRST UNIVERSITY UNDER A NEW GOVERNANCE MODEL

Corvinus University of Budapest

What communication tools should a well-established brand use when facing major changes? We explored this question in our collaboration with Corvinus University of Budapest.

CHALLENGE

Corvinus University of Budapest was the first higher education institution in Hungary to undergo a governance model change. Alongside the transition to a foundation model, the university redefined its own strategic goals. Our agency was asked to support the communication of these organizational changes, design a new visual identity, and produce video content to promote its programs and the new campus.

SOLUTION

In addition to supporting the communication of the governance transition, our main task was to create a new visual identity. This process was preceded by in-depth research, including benchmarking, brand spirit analysis, a high school survey, and in-depth interviews with university stakeholders. Based on these insights, we developed the brand persona, which then guided the design process.

The collaboration continued with a video series promoting the university’s admission campaign, focusing on selected bachelor’s, master’s, and postgraduate programs. We also documented the renewal of the university’s Gellért Campus on camera—not only the reconstruction process and design concept, but also the functions of the completed building.

RESULT

The new Corvinus identity reflects the university’s values in its color palette, shapes, and typography, and works effectively across both online and print platforms, in formal as well as informal communication. Our program videos and the film on the Gellért Campus have been successfully used by the university on its social media channels.

With the visual identity created for Corvinus University of Budapest, we won the Grand Prize in the Visual Communication category of the Hungarian Design Award in autumn 2021, and received a Gold distinction in the Large Identity category at the 2021 RGB competition.
