What makes a value-creating social enterprise visible?

Malta Manufactory

Máltai Manufaktúra is a social enterprise operating under the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta. It runs production facilities in some of Hungary’s most disadvantaged settlements, where local residents create high-quality, handcrafted products.

CHALLENGE

Our collaboration with Máltai Manufaktúra represents an exciting and complex professional challenge. The social enterprise is closely connected to a very strong umbrella brand—The Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta—which most people rightly associate with social assistance and charitable work.

Máltai Manufaktúra, however, supports social inclusion in a unique way: by demonstrating to society that quality can be created even in the most disadvantaged communities, and by proving to local residents that their work has real value.

SOLUTION

Through systematic communication, we work to increase the visibility of Máltai Manufaktúra, highlighting its core values and products. Our role extends beyond developing a comprehensive strategy: we also implement the communication tools and initiatives defined within it. This includes creating unique campaigns and loyalty programs, producing visual and video content, printed materials, and delivering both social media and PR communication.

On Facebook, we focused on building the overall image of Máltai Manufaktúra. Our content shows how products make their journey from the workshops to consumers, emphasizing that every purchase directly creates employment opportunities for people living in the country’s poorest communities. We also make visible the people and personal stories behind the manufactory, as we believe these are what truly give meaning to this social enterprise.

RESULT

Alongside ongoing social media communication, in November 2025 we organized a press trip to the Gyulaj facility of Máltai Manufaktúra. Journalists were able to learn about the production process, the products themselves, and the local employees, while also gaining insight into the work of the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta’s Presence House, learning center, and Sure Start Children’s House in Gyulaj. The press trip supported the creation of rich, in-depth, and original media content.

We also aimed to make the value-creating work of Máltai Manufaktúra more visible through video storytelling. By presenting the settlements and the people working there, we produced short videos as well as a longer image film showcasing the manufactory’s sewing workshop, community kitchen, and one of its production facilities.
